Gemstone no. 1 - Fine Art Print

Gemstone no. 1 - Fine Art Print

Introducing my first gemstone drawing (hence, the name "Gemstone no. 1") in what would go on to be a 35-piece drawing set.

In the fall of 2019, I was hired onto the Copic North America team full-time, and in order to refresh my Copic marker skills from high school and college, I set out to challenge myself by drawing a series of gemstones. At the time, I thought I was going to draw maybe 10 or 15 total stones. However, once I started putting the pencil to the paper, and I cracked open my Copic marker chest again, I became addicted to the subject and medium!

All of the drawings in this series were created entirely with Copic markers and Prismacolor colored pencils, and as mentioned above, this is the first of 35 gem illustrations. The focus of the series was on color, shape, and detail - with a particular emphasis on light refractions. "Gemstone no. 1" has a very special meaning for me being the first one I completed, and it beautifully captures the inspiration behind this entire series.
